Howdy!
Here's the current list of nominees for the various positions open for the 2006 CCA elections.
President: Robert Havens & Drew McCarthy;
V-P: Marcus Jones & Wayne Unruh;
S/T: David Poole;
NC At-Large: Vicki Lyons, Derek Powers, & Laura Weislo;
SC At-Large: Joe Sullivan.
More information can be found below.
Also, the eligible club list has been posted here.
Please check the list, and send any corrections to Rey Treviño & the webmaster..
We are still accepting nominations, so please let us know if anybody else is interested in running for a position. Right now, we have at least one for each spot.
We have heard back from a few people regarding the format of elections and it seems at least those people are in favor of round-robin elections . . . voting for President takes place, then voting for Vice-President (which will include the non-winner of the Presidential election), and so on. NC clubs will vote for NC At-Large and SC clubs will vote for SC At-Large.
If you have any other concerns please use this forum to let everybody know so that we can discuss, otherwise once the voting starts it is too late.
Thank you all for your time and consideration.
Rey Trevino, Ed.D.

I retired from the United States Army in 2004, after serving 21+ years on active duty. I am 42 years old. My second career includes running a web site development and hosting business called TekZones, as well work at Hawley’s Bicycle World. As second year President and third year Club officer for the Cross Creek Cycling Club, I have organized and promoted several races in Fayetteville and Fort Bragg. I have also raced in several events in the CCA area. My primary goal as CCA President will be to enhance communication among the CCA Board of Officers, CCA member clubs, and all cyclists in the Carolinas. With the geographical separation between these groups, I will reduce that distance through a comprehensive, dynamic web site. I plan to further develop the Racing Program in the Carolinas to make this region one of the most desirable places to race on the eastern seaboard.

| Cycling has always been a important part of my life. I've been a cycling event volunteer since the 1970's. I’ve raced as a Cat. 4, become a B level Road & Track Official, an A level MTB Official, and organized numerous road and mtb races. I’ve been an officer and webmaster for Hearts Racing Club since the 1990’s.
A wave of change has washed over the CCA, and things will never be the same again. The good news is that we have a lot of folks who want to be involved in the association’s business. The bad news is that a lot of divisiveness has arisen, and we’re having a hard time building consensus as to how the new organization will structure and govern itself.
I believe the organization needs a solid foundation that it does not yet have. I want to establish a simple, clear structure of governance and accountability that will allow us to grow and advance a wide variety of programs. I want to get the groundwork laid so that the CCA can become an inclusive, responsive organization, truly the result of the cooperative effort of its members.
I believe I have the experience to successfully lead us through this process, and to fashion a workable middle ground between all factions. I hope you’ll support my efforts.

As the Vice-President of the Carolina Cycling Association, I will support Robert Havens as President. Robert and I have discussed the many positive aspects of our Bicycle Racing Community and how CCA can make it even better. We are both promoters, racers, officers in active Clubs and have proven ability to Grow Bicycle Racing in the Carolinas.

Hello, my name is Wayne Unruh and I am running for Vice-President of the CCA. I live in Cary, NC and I am a member of the Capital Cycling Club. My experience as a racer, official, and promoter make me uniquely qualified to be Vice-President. As Vice-President I would like to accomplish to following four tasks: One, improve the content and usability of the web site so that it can be an information hub for Carolina racing. Two, implement a Best All-Around Rider competition that sets short and long term goals that encourage teamwork and competitiveness. Three, create committees to discover ways to increase the number of juniors and women racing in the Carolinas. Four, publish a budget that includes money to purchase new equipment for officials and promoters that will improve the quality of events in the Carolinas. I would appreciate your vote.

David Poole has been a mainstay of cycling and officiating in NC for many years. David was the USCF NC District Representative until the USAC changed to Regional Representatives. He's a National Commissar level Official. He's headed the NC Cycling Association for many years, and served as the treasurer of both the NC Cycling Association, and the nascent Carolinas Cycling Association.

Hi, I am Vicki Lyons, I am accepting the nomination for NC at Large. I have been involved in bicycle racing since 1990 and became an official in 1995. I am a B level official and am currently the secretary for the CCA and in charge of permits for the Carolinas. My motivation is to serve the racers and provide the safest and fairest events possible. The racers are why we are here. I have come to know many racers, promoters and officials and am always open to listen to anyone's concerns. Thank you for your consideration.

My name is Derek Powers. I'm what you call a "lifer." My bikes are worth more than my car and i have never seen what my legs look like with hair on them. I would now like to take my 25+ years of experience as a racer, a race promoter, and a club president and apply it to bettering cycling in the carolinas. I believe we can accomplish that through the CCA, an organization with the potential to dramatically improve communication between racers of all genders/abilities, officials, and promoters. Better feedback between those 3 groups via websites, meetings, and newsletters will expand participation and improve the overall quality/safety of racing in the carolinas.

I am currently team manager for the BMW-Bianchi women's team. I would like to join the CCA leadership to further promote women's cycling. Key issues are: bringing more women into the sport, encouraging them to keep racing past the difficult beginner period, and lack of support structures for new and existing racers. I would like to see a Cat 4 women's series to encourage and retain new racers, more clinics throughout the year to teach new racers riding and racing skills, and the establishment of a web forum with advice on everything from training and racing to building a race team and getting sponsorship.

USCF SC District Representative from 1988 until system changed. USCF official since 1988. Cyclist since 1986. I believe we need more clubs, more races and more USAC members in SC and I will help promote that activity, while helping build a stronger, more responsive association.
